About Us

AI4LAM — Artificial Intelligence for Libraries, Archives, and Museums — was initially launched as a network in 2018, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU 2018) between the National Library of Norway and Stanford University Libraries on 7 December 2018. The MoU initiated the first activities in applying AI to transform, support, and shape cultural heritage and research, contributing to the commonwealth of knowledge for the benefit of humankind. The second MoU between the National Library of Norway and Stanford University Libraries was signed in June 2024 (MoU 2024) to advance the concepts and projects of AI4LAM to a new level.

On 3 December 2025, AI4LAM was formally constituted as an organization with more than 40 institutions across the globe joining forces to create a better fantastic future for the AI-driven digital transformation of cultural heritage. Together, we have signed a new MoU 2025, marking a fresh and sustainable beginning for our AI4LAM organization.
