Workshop on Countering Cognitive and Hybrid Threats in Cultural Heritage (C2T-CH)

Hybrid threats—combining cyberattacks, information manipulation, physical sabotage, and geopolitical pressure—can target cultural institutions, archives, museums, and digital repositories to destabilize societies and undermine trust. Cognitive threats, including disinformation, narrative manipulation, deepfakes, and AI-driven influence operations, directly affect collective memory, identity, and historical interpretation. Cultural Heritage thus becomes both a target and a vector within broader strategic conflicts.

The workshop will also integrate perspectives from the AI4LAM AI in Cybersecurity Working Group, which focuses on strengthening digital resilience across cultural heritage institutions. This includes developing AI‑supported approaches for detecting and mitigating cyber threats, safeguarding digital collections, and establishing trustworthy, transparent, and sustainable security practices within GLAM environments. By connecting IEEE’s research community with AI4LAM’s applied institutional expertise, the session will highlight emerging methodologies for protecting cultural data in increasingly complex digital ecosystems.
