Automatic Text Recognition Working Group
The ATR Working Group is a dedicated space for AI4LAM members to develop and exchange knowledge around the implementation of Automatic Text Recognition (ATR), both for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR).

Building Collaborative Knowledge Around OCR and HTR Workflows for Cultural Heritage Collections
Libraries, archives, and museums have an ongoing interest in making their collections accessible to users around the world. With the changing landscape in AI and ML, there has been a growing interest in harnessing these technologies to improve accessibility to collections and to implement digitisation workflows that make this possible.
The ATR Working Group provides a dedicated space for AI4LAM members to develop and exchange knowledge around the implementation of Automatic Text Recognition (ATR), both for OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and HTR (Handwritten Text Recognition). It aims to foster greater collaboration between AI4LAM members keen to share needs, approaches, and challenges in implementing ATR workflows, as well as successful use cases, data, models, and/or tools. The group will monitor and help members stay up to date with the constantly evolving landscape of new ATR technologies and their potential application in the libraries, archives, and museums context. This group will not focus on Automatic Speech Recognition as there is already a working group focused on Speech-to-Text. The group may produce deliverables over time such as ATR policies, literature reviews, and sample pipelines.
Monthly Call – The meetings takes place on the 4th Wednesday of each month with a duration of one hour.
15:00 PM (UTC)

Presentations on projects and topics of interest by members of the group based on a prioritization exercise currently underway Open forum meetings (more informal) to identify new topics and feedback on work done.
