Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library is a distinctive joint-use library serving San José State University and the broader San José community. The SJSU King Library advances responsible, accessible, and community-centered uses of artificial intelligence. It houses the AI Center for Civic and Social Good, a partnership with the City of San José supporting AI for All and connecting the SJSU and San José communities with leading AI companies. The Library has developed an LLM-powered retrieval-augmented-generation chatbot, hired one of the country’s first AI librarians, and offers programs on AI literacy, research, learning, bias, and ethics. Its work is guided by transparency, privacy, assessment, experimentation, and responsible governance as exemplified in its Making AI Visible Initiative.
