AI4LAM and GRAPHIA Announce the Launch of a Strategic Collaboration
The GRAPHIA Project, represented by OPERAS’ Secretary General Yannick Legré, has officially signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with Artificial Intelligence for Libraries, Archives & Museums (AI4AM) represented by its Secretary General Ines Vodopivec.

This cooperation marks an exciting new chapter in our commitment to advancing innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence, cultural heritage, and knowledge infrastructure.
OPERAS as the coordinating partner of GRAPHIA welcomes the opportunity to discover how the AI4LAM stakeholders see what GRAPHIA is building and what it means to their community. AI4LAM is a global organisation with more than 50 institutions across the globe joining forces to create a better fantastic future for the AI-driven digital transformation of cultural heritage.
This collaboration represents a shared vision between our two communities: to explore how emerging technologies can support more open, connected, and intelligent approaches to working with knowledge, collections, and cultural data.
Building Bridges Between Communities
GRAPHIA focuses on developing tools and frameworks that enable richer understanding of complex information ecosystems through network analysis, knowledge representation, and data-driven discovery. At the same time, AI4LAM has established itself as a leading international community bringing together practitioners, researchers, and institutions interested in the responsible application of artificial intelligence within libraries, archives, and museums. By formalising this collaboration, both efforts recognise the growing importance of interdisciplinary partnerships in shaping the future of digital knowledge work.
Why This Collaboration Matters
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how institutions manage, organise, and interact with information. Yet meaningful progress requires more than technological advancement alone – it depends on collaboration between communities with diverse expertise and shared values.
Through this memorandum, the GRAPHIA and AI4LAM aim to:
- Foster knowledge exchange between technical and cultural heritage communities;
- Explore collaborative research opportunities around AI, metadata, and knowledge networks;
- Encourage open dialogue around ethical, transparent, and responsible AI practices;
- Build stronger international partnerships focused on knowledge accessibility and innovation.
An initial collaboration was already started with a presentation by the GRAPHIA Technical Coordinator, Julien Homo, during the April AI4LAM Community Call. Over the following months, we will be exploring more opportunities to foster and develop it further.
Looking Ahead
This memorandum is not simply a formal agreement, it is the foundation for future collaboration, shared learning, and community-building.
As AI continues to reshape the information landscape, partnerships like this allow us to think collectively about how technology can be developed and applied in ways that serve both institutions and the public good.
We are excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to working alongside AI4LAM to contribute to a more connected and intelligent future for knowledge communities worldwide.
