Alongside the official FF2026 conference programme, our partners are organising a series of affiliated events. While these events are not part of the official conference programme, they complement the conference and offer additional opportunities for exchange, networking, and engagement with the wider FF2026 community.

All Eyes on AI for LAMs: IIIF & IIPC (Sold Out)
Join us the IIIF Consortium and the International Internet Preservation Consortium for a showcase of AI use cases, tools, and experiments.
Join the International Image Operability Framework Consortium and the International Internet Preservation Consortium for an afternoon of presentations and demos exploring the expanding role of AI in libraries, archives, and museums.
The event will feature introductions to IIIF and IIPC, short talks showcasing practical applications and evolving experiments with AI, and opportunities to network across communities.
The event is free, but registration is required.

AI and web archiving workshop (Sold Out)
Building on discussions from the WAC 2026 workshop and the takeaways from the AI Literacy and Learning for LAMs Summit at the Library of Congress, this event focuses on the use of AI in web archiving. The program combines short presentations, community updates, and interactive brainstorming sessions to explore current practice and identify possible future directions, recommendations, best practices, community activities, and guidance.

DPC Americas Allied Organization Session at FF2026
Join DPC Americas for an informal session focused on community building, networking, and information sharing on the 15th of September at 9am Eastern Time. Discussion topics will include a preview of selected key AI4LAM themes and their impact on digital preservation practice. This hybrid session is open to all registered Fantastic Futures 2026 attendees (DPC members and non-members alike). DPC members are also invited to attend this event virtually.
This is NOT on the official Fantastic Futures conference agenda and does conflict with a workshop time. There are 3 presenters lined up and discussion will follow.

AI as Curator? Experimenting with Machine-Assisted Interpretation in Exhibitions
Hosted by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) and Digital Library Federation (DLF) in Partnership with LibShack.
As AI tools become more embedded in cultural heritage work, what might it mean to treat them not only as back-end infrastructure, but as collaborators in interpretation? This interactive session invites participants to explore AI-assisted storytelling and exhibit interpretation through discussion, examples, live demonstration, and hands-on group activity.
Designed for librarians, archivists, museum professionals, educators, and cultural heritage practitioners, the session will examine how AI can support exhibition development, visitor engagement, and institutional storytelling while also considering ethics, responsible use, patron data, accessibility, and the hidden costs of AI infrastructure.
Participants will see real-world examples of AI-assisted work with cultural and educational institutions, including a live demo of an AI avatar programmed to answer visitor questions about an exhibit. Attendees will then work in small groups to create a mini AI-assisted exhibit interpretation using a simple guided process.
The session will close with an overview of LibShack’s work with libraries and museums, including AI avatars, AI-generated exhibits that track patron usage, project support, and AI fluency training for librarians, archivists, and museum educators.
